History

Kachabam means Tortoise. Lord Vishnu manifested here in the form of Koorma (Tortoise) and worshipped Lord Shiva. Hence Lord Shiva is called Kachabeeswarar. Lord Vishnu in form of Koorma and Lordess Mahalakshmi worshipped Lord Shiva under the Murukku Tree to wipe off the sin of Lord Vishnu on manifestation of Tortoise. Lord Shiva wiped off Lord Vishnu's sin and thus Lord Vishnu regained His original form.
