History

Legend here says that Lord Shiva danced with a stick (Mazhu) on the request of Markandeya Munivar. Hence Lord was called here as Mazhuvaadeeswarar. Purushaamrugam has brought the linga from Sathyalogam and installed here and worshipped. On knowing this Lord Bramha came here to take back this linga but in vain and thought whether this linga would be a Diamond Pillar (Vairaththoonn). Hence Lord Shiva was called here as Vairaththoonn nadhar. |
