One of the famous cities in Thondai Naadu is Kachipuram, once it was the capital of Chola Dynasty and then became the capital of Pallava Dynasty. It was also an ancient city of South India lot of historical importance. City of Kanchi is divided into two "Shiva Kanchi" and "Vishnu Kanchi". Shiva Kanchi is now called as "Periya Kanchi" and Vishnu Kanchi is called as "Chinna Kanchi"or Thiru Athiyur. The first three Azhwars Poigai Azhwar, Boothath Azhwar and Pei Azhwar are called also "Mudhal Azhwars". They lived during the same period and met each of them at Thirukovillur. The foremost of the "Mudhal Azhwars" is Poigai Azhwar.  Thiruvekka also called as "Yadhothakaari Sannadhi" in Chinna Kanchi is one of the 108 divya desams of Lord Vishnu. Near the Yadhothakaari temple there is a small pond with lot of fresh lotus close to the Sonna Vannam Seitha perumal Sannadhi. During 7th Century on Chiththarthi year (Tamil Year), Aiypasi Month (Oct - Nov),  Thiruvonam Star, Sukla Ashtami Thithi , Tuesday, Poigai Azhwar, being one the Hamsam of the Panchayudham ( Five Great Weapons) of Lord Vishnu as Thiru Changu (Conch), emerged on the world from one of the lotus in the pond. "Pond" in Tamil called as "Poigai" since he emerged from the pond he was called as "Poigai Azhwar".
