| In olden days, there was a king named Amithrajit. He was a kind and generous ruler. In his whole kingdom, Ekadasi fast should be kept. Whoever refuses to fast, will be punished. Once, Sage Narada came there. The sage informed the king that demon Kankal Ketu abducted Mala Vidhyadhar's daughter Malayagandhini and kept her at underground Champavathi Nagar. The sage also instructed the king to kill the demon and save the girl and protect the world. The demon's downfall will come with his own trident. The king reached that place. The girl saw the king and told him to hide in the armory. During this, the demon reached there and informed the girl that her marriage will take place day after tomorrow with him. Then he slept. The king woke up the demon and fought with him and killed him. Sage Narada reached there and completed the marriage between the king and the girl. Then the king and his queen went to Mahakal forest and worshipped the Shivalinga. The queen fasted on Thruthiya day and pleased Goddess Parvathi and obtained a child from Lord Shiva as a boon. The queen gave birth to the child. But the minister told the queen that if she loves the king, then abandon the child as the child was born in wrong basis which will destroy the whole kingdom. The queen abandoned the child and kept him in Vikata Devi temple. At the same time, female ascetics were wandering in the sky and they took the child. After sixteen years, the boy came to Avanthika Nagari and performed penance on Lord Shiva. Lord was pleased and asked the boy a boon. The boy asked the lord to free him from the birth world. The Linga came to be known as Vireshwar as it was worshipped by a brave boy. He ruled the whole world and reached Heaven after death. Whoever worships this Linga, all their donations and sacrifices will remain permanent and will reach Heaven after death. |
