History

Once Goddess Parvathi asked Lord Shiva where is her son Veerak. Lord Shiva answered that he is performing penance at Mahakal forest. Then she said that, she wishes to see him and asked Lord Shiva to accompany her. They traveled on their vehicle, Nandi. On their way, Goddess Parvathi feared seeing a mountain. So, they stopped there and Lord Shiva said that he will see the mountain and come. He said that his follower Kund will look after her and obey her orders. It took ten years for Lord Shiva to surround the mountain. As Lord Shiva did not return, Goddess Parvathi started worrying. She ordered Kund to meet Lord Shiva and come back. When Kund could not find Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvathi cursed him that he will reach Earth. At the same time Lord Shiva returned. So, Goddess Parvathi ordered Kund to go to Mahakal forest and take the form of Bhairav and said him to worship the Shivalinga in the north direction which fulfils all our wishes. So the Linga came to be known as Kundeshwar. On the advice of Goddess Parvathi, Kund worshipped that Linga and obtained a high post. Whoever worships this Linga, will attain the result of visiting all the holy places.
