Once, there was a king named Tvashta and his son was Kushadwaj. He gave many donations. One day, Lord Indra beat him up. Angered by this, Tvashta took a piece of hair from his head and kept fire in it. Due to that fire, a demon named Vratrasur was born. According to the order of Tvashta, Vratrasur fought with the Devas, tied up Lord Indra and started ruling the Heaven. After some time, Guru of Devas Brihaspati arrived there and freed Lord Indra. Lord Indra asked him the way to obtain Heaven. Brihaspati instructed him to worship the Shivalinga in the south of Khandeshwar Mahadev at Mahakal forest. Lord Indra did as per instructed. Lord Shiva appeared there and ordered him to fight against the demon by remembering the Lord. Lord Indra fought with the demon, killed him and won back the Heaven. As Lord Indra worshipped that Linga, it came to be known as Indreshwar. Whoever worships this Linga, will be freed from all his sins and will reach Heaven like Lord Indra. |
