Once, Lord Shiva was sitting in the caves of Mount Kailash. Then, Goddess Parvathi came there and asked him the reason of leaving the beautiful Mount Kailash and staying at Mahakal forest. At this juncture, Sage Narada came there. Then, Lord Shiva questioned the sage that in all the three worlds, which place gave him more happiness? The sage replied that a place called Pathan in Mahakal forest gave him more happiness. At that place, all the people remember Lord Shiva. All the Devas are present there. There is a yellowish structure which gives us more joy. As the Linga is present in Pathan, it came to be known as Pathneshwar. Whoever worships this Linga, will endure all the happiness in his life.
