In olden days, there was a king named Veer Dhanwa. He went to a forest for hunting. Unknowingly, he killed five sons of a Brahmin who were wandering wearing a deer's skin. Fearing curse, the king went to Sage Devrath and repented for his mistake. The sage said that Lord will destroy your sins. The king killed the sage as he thought that the sage was lying. He also killed Kapila, the cow in Sage Ghalav's ashram. Then, he went and slept under a tree. Some tigers came there and when they were about to kill him, a divine power from the king's body killed all the tigers. The king got worried and went to Sage Vaman's ashram and enquired how he will get freedom from his sins. The sage instructed that he should worship the Shivalinga in the north of Anarkeshwar in Mahakal forest. Due to his devotion, Lord Shiva appeared there and destroyed all his sins. The Linga came to be known as Jateshwar. Whoever worships this Linga, will be freed from all his sins. |
