According to ancient stories, the moon lost its light because of Daksh Prajapati's curse. Due to that, there were no medicines left on the Earth. All the Devas prayed to Lord Brahma. Based on His advice, the ocean was churned and a moon came from that. The moon protected all the people on the advice of Lord Brahma. The moon which was cursed, sought the advice of Lord Vishnu. On his advice, the moon prayed to Lord Shiva in Linga form at Mahakal forest and pleased him. So he got back his body and his kingdom as a boon. As the Linga was worshipped by Soma (Moon), it came to be known as Someshwar Mahadev. Whoever worships this Linga, will be freed from his blackmarks and will attain salvation. |
