Once, there was a king named Kaushik. He protected his people and availed many facilities in his kingdom. He lives as a man in days and as a cock (Kukkut) in nights. His wife Vishala was very sad because of this. She thought of dying but went to Sage Ghalav. She expressed her worries and enquired the reason. He replied that her husband was the son of King Vidurat in his previous birth. Unfortunately, he became a meat-eater and ate many cocks. Angered by this, Thamchood, the king of cocks cursed him that he will be plagued by diseases. As per the curse, he became weak and he went to Vamdev and asked the reason. Vamdev told him about Thamchood's curse. He went to Thamchood and pardoned to him. Thamchood said that you will be freed from your disease, you will rule, but in nights, you will become a cock. Hearing this Rani Vishala asked Sage Ghalav the way to be freed from this curse. He replied that worship the Shivalinga near Jabaleshwar in Mahakal forest. They worshipped that Linga and then the king did not become a cock in nights. The couple were happy then after. Whoever worships this Linga will be saved from Pithru Narak.
