History

Once, Brahma was meditating. Due to that, a new son was created. Lord Brahma asked about him and his whereabouts. He replied that he was his son and asked Lord Brahma to order him. Lord Brahma ordered him to give unusual birth to Lord Kamdev. Kamdev disappeared because of fear. Lord Brahma cursed him that he will be burnt to ashes. Fearing his death, Kamdev apologized. Lord Brahma gave him a bow made with flowers and five arrows. With that, he visited all the places. He used an arrow on Lord Shiva and he was to ashes by Lord Shiva's third eye. Kamdev's wife Rathi prayed Lord Shiva. Lord said that he is helpless. He also stated that Kamdev will be born again as the son of Lord Krishna. Then they should go and worship the Shivalinga in Avanthika Nagari to fulfill their wishes. They went there and worshipped the Linga. As the Linga fulfilled the wishes of Kamdev, it came to be known as Mankamneshwar. Whoever worships this Linga, will have their child  disease-free and they will reach heaven after their death.
