| According to Puranas, Sage Makadan worshipped Lord Shiva. He sat under a tree and performed penance for 1000 years. One day, a drop from the tree fell on his body. The sage thought that because of his penance, Amrutham is falling on his body. As a result, he became proud of his penance and danced in joy. Due to the strength of his penance, birth and death were affected. Then Lord Shiva gave Darshan to the sage and demolished his pride. As a remedy for his pride, the sage went to a cave in Mahakal forest and worshipped and offered poojas to the Shivalinga present there. He got relieved from his pride and attained salvation (Moksha). |
