History
|
Every Day evening (Sandhya Kaalam) Lord Bramha used worship Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu wanted to test the devotion of Lord Bramha. This area was previously full of Kadhamba Trees (Kadhamba Vanam) and Lord Vishnu appeared here as one of the Kadhamba Tree and Lord Bramha knowing that came here and with the water from His Kamandalam He performed Abhiseka to the Kadhamba Tree. Lord Vishnu told Lord Bramha to perform the Abhiseka to Him here daily, so Lord Bramha Himself had a temple here and stayed. Once when Lord Shiva was wandering with the Kabhaalam (Lord Bramha's Head) sticking on to His hands, He came here and Lord Vishnu asked Lordess Lakshmi to fill the Kabhaalam with grains. Since the Kabhaalam was filled here, Lordess Lakshmi was called here as "Pooranavalli". Lord Shiva appeared here as "Bikshaadanar Murthi". The Abhiseka water performed by Lord Bramha was accumulated here as "Kadhamba Theertham". Since Thirumangai Alwar called Lord Vishnu as "Uththamar" in his hymn here, this temple was called as "Uththamar Koil". Thirumangai Alwar stayed here and went for the worship of Lord Ranganathar. |
