The Sacred Legend (Sthala Purana)
Lord Indra (Puruhuta), burdened with the curse of thousand eyes from Sage Gautama, performed rigorous penance at this sanctified spot. Pleased by his prayers, Goddess Shakthi appeared as Puruhutika Devi, liberating Indra from his affliction and granting peace to the realm.
